2 Truths & 1 Lie about Skincare

Let’s play a quick game; what’s true and what’s the lie?

1. Everyone needs a moisturizer… even those with oily skin

That’s TRUE.

A moisturizer provides balance and hydration to the skin, as well as barrier protection.

And EVERY skin needs a moisturizer, even oily skin. If you do not use a moisturizer, your skin will produce more oil to make up for the lack of hydration (a.k.a. water), and skin will become even oilier.

If you’re very oily, no need for a heavy cream. Try something with hyaluronic acid for a lighter feel, or even a hyaluronic acid serum for proper hydration.

2. You have to wash your face EVERY night

That’s TRUE.

It’s easy to get lazy and “forget” to wash your face at night. I mean, it’s not that big of a deal right? Wrong.

You can’t have good skin without clean skin and you need to use a cleanser to pull off all of the day’s impurities, dirt, oil, and makeup. Throughout the day, your skin is bombarded with pollutants and free radicals. When those sit on your face, they start to break down your collagen and elastin, causing more fine lines and dark spots. Plus, when you sleep, your skin is actively repairing itself. Give it a good head start with a cleanser, proper serum, and night cream.

3. More is better!

That’s the LIE!

You don’t need to pile on multiple products to see results in your skin. Simple, effective ingredients will get the job done.

If you have multiple serums, try the following tricks to keep your skin looking fresh:

  • It’s OK to layer two different serums, but no more than that. You can use them together, or use them on alternate days
  • Use one serum for 3 months, and then switch to a different serum for another 3 months. It’s good to introduce new ingredients to the skin
