WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a molecule our bodies naturally produce in the skin, joints, and eyes. Its main purpose? Retaining moisture in your body and preventing it from evaporating into the air! Like collagen and elastin, HA is responsible for keeping your skin looking plump and youthful. But much like collagen and elastin, over time, your body produces less and less of this miracle molecule. Other factors that decrease your HA production include exposure to UV rays, pollution, and just living in an urban environment.
But just because your body loses its natural ability to produce hyaluronic acid, doesn’t mean you can never get it back. Applied topically, HA still has the ability to bring back moisture to your skin, so you can fight the effects of aging! WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HYALURONIC ACID?
SIDE EFFECTS OF HYALURONIC ACID
Hyaluronic acid hydrates your skin by pulling moisture from the air, which can be a problem if you live in drier climates. Without water in the air, HA will begin to pull water from the deeper layers of your skin. But if you live in a humid climate and your skin still feels dry, then that might have to do with molecular weight
Low molecular weight HA can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, delivering long-term hydrating results. But high molecular weight HA sits at the surface, providing immediate hydration to just the external surface of your skin. High molecular weight HA eventually evaporates, leaving the potential for your skin to become dry again.
HOW DO I COUNTERACT THE DRYNESS?
Before applying your hyaluronic acid serum to your face, dampen your skin with water, toner, or essence. This will allow the HA to attract the water that exists on the surface of your skin, rather than from the deeper layers. To maximize the benefits of hyaluronic acid, make sure you add an emollient ingredient, such as a cream or oil, after applying the serum, to ensure the moisture doesn’t evaporate into the air. We recommend using our Super Nutrient Facial Balm to lock the hydration into your skin.
If you begin to notice any itchiness or redness, then stop using the product and consult with your dermatologist on whether or not the product is right for you.
HOW TO APPLY HYALURONIC ACID SERUM
After cleansing and toning, spritz your face with water or essence so that your skin is slightly damp. Apply one to two drops of Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum onto your face and décolleté.
PRO TIP: Gently dab or pat the serum into your skin — don’t rub! Rubbing creates friction and tugs at your skin, resulting in redness and loss of elasticity. For best results, use morning and night and follow with your favorite moisturizer.
