What is Intrinsic Aging?

What is intrinsic aging?

Also referred to as the natural aging process, intrinsic aging is the natural decline of the condition of the skin that takes place beginning in the mid-20’s.  Around that time, decreased skin cell production of collagen and elastin, two fibers essential for skin elasticity, leads to less elastic skin that doesn’t quite snap back into place the way did during teenage years.  Additionally, skin cells do not regenerate and shed as quickly, further contributing to the problem.  Although intrinsic aging begins in the 20’s, symptoms, such as fine lines and wrinkles, are not usually observed for decades.

Signs of intrinsic aging include:

The intrinsic aging process is controlled by genetics, meaning there’s nothing you can do at the source to stop the process.  It’s different for everyone.  Some people notice gray hairs in their 20’s, while others never experience them.  Additionally, some people get wrinkles and expression lines in their 30’s, while for others such age-signs don’t show up until their 50’s.

While we won’t be able to stop intrinsic aging at the source until we develop DNA manipulation techniques like those we see in the movies, there is plenty we can do to slow the progress of intrinsic aging.  As previously stated, intrinsic aging leads to decreased collagen and elastin.  So if we can increase collagen and elastin levels, we can slow the process.

Cosmedica Skincare offers a variety of products that do just that.  Using powerful active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and essential oils, Cosmedica Skincare offers skin treatments that stimulate skin cell activity to slow the formation of age signs.  Cosmedica Hyaluronic Acid Serum offers a potent dose of moisture and anti-aging active ingredients.  Additionally, Cosmedica Multi-Active Night Creme works while you sleep to reinvigorate aging complexions for a younger appearance.
